Jim Zimmerman Memorial Scholarships

Jim Zimmerman was a beloved member of the Zimmerman family, Malachi Winter Guard, other RMCGA Teams, the High Country Performing Arts Organization, and was a passionate advocate of the marching arts in general.  High Country Performing Arts proudly awards several annual scholarships in his honor.  

For 2025,  five $1000.00 Jim Zimmerman Memorial Fund scholarships are available.  Eligibility is based on one of the following two categories and submissions from both are placed into a common pool for review. The category does not impact selections.

Independent Guard - Age 17 or Older:

A director of any Independent team may recommend one current member for a scholarship. The member must be 17 or older on April 1st this year.

High School Guard - Graduating Senior:

A director of a High School guard may recommend one senior/graduating member for scholarship.  Recipient should have the desire and ability to perform in an Independent Winter Guard - or DCI Drum Corps Guard following graduation.

The Application Process:

For the 2025 season, the application window is February 1st through March 8th.  Winners will be announced and presented awards at the upcoming RMCGA State Championships.

Only 1 member per eligible team may apply so it is imperative that both the performing member and the Coach reach mutual agreement on continuing with the application process.  We encourage performing members to approach their director/coach about the scholarship recommendation possibility, but in the end it is the discretion of the director/coach to proceed or not or to make a different selection from the team.

The director/coach must submit a recommendation letter (form link below) AND the eligible member must submit their application containing essay questions (form link below).  Both forms must be received during the application window.  Please read the instructions section found within your respective form.
